(OLNEY) It’s National FFA Week, a time for FFA members to host activities that raise awareness about the role that FFA plays in the development of agriculture’s future leaders and the importance of agricultural education. Here’s the activities sponsored by the Olney FFA Chapter at Richland County High School :
Monday : the Chapter held its FFA Week Chapter meeting last night at the Richland County Courthouse with a tour included – and it was Crazy Sock & Croc Day at RCHS
Tuesday : Teacher Appreciation Breakfast at Richland County High School – then a Petting Zoo for Pre-K and Elementary youngsters – plus it’s SWINTER dress up day at RCHS

(OLNEY) The Olney City Council met last night in regular session. The Council : approved the payment of bills as presented : accepted the $29,856 bid from Vandevanter Engineering of Decatur to purchase a new sewage grinder for the City of Olney’s Sewage Treatment Plant : accepted four seperate bids to build a multi-use trail in the Olney City Park – $44,625 for concrete – $16,367 for utility supply storm sewer piping – $13,835 for sewer inlets and rings – and $13,752 for crushed stone : approved related permits and other documents for the Route 130 Sidewalk Project : approved the recommended appointment of Eric King to the Olney/Noble Airport Authority : heard and reviewed the various reports from the City of Olney Departments : and then adjourned with no closed session : the next Olney City Council meeting is March 8, 2021.

(NEWTON) The work continues by cleanup crews to re-open the section of Illinois Route 33 between Dieterich and Wheeler in Jasper County after the Canadian National Railroad derailment occurred this past Tuesday night in the 9:00 hour. Officials say eleven of the train’s cars left the tracks, some of which fell to the north side of the rail tracks, spilling their loads of corn onto Route 33 which runs alongside the railway. Both the engineer and conductor on the train were not injured and no hazardous material was involved, only corn. The railroad crews have been on site cleaning up the area since yesterday morning. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Jasper County EMS, and the Dieterich Fire Department is assisting at the scene.
