know as americans, considering it was out there anyway in wiki leaks? i think it is. look, if the release of classified documents puts our troops in harm s way, or hurts our ability to gather intelligence, i m against it, you re against it, virtually everybody is against it but i don t know that that s the case here. look, this war in afghanistan has not been going well. the united states beat both the japanese ant the nazis in four years. it s nine years into this war. and we re still screwing around with these people and the taliban. just because the u.s. government tells us that the release of these documents is harmful, i don t automatically believe it by the way, if they re harmful, then prosecute the leaker, you are allowed to do that if you don t prosecute the leakers, then i have to wonder how harmful the release of these documents really are.
the regime wants to see the taliban returned to power but they do like being a thorn in the side of the u.s. as it tries to win the war, shep. shepard: where do things stand on the investigation into the leak. pentagon sources tell me, shep that private first class bradley manning is the focus of the investigation for now. he was charged earlier this month with leaking classified video to wiki leaks. the investigation is being handled by the army criminal investigation which is now handling this probe and a spokesman telling me, quote, this is a continuation of the bradley manning investigation. now, today, the chairman of the joint chiefs admiral mike mullen traveling in iraq made these first public comments about this leak, shep. i really am appalled by the leak, condemn the leak. and i believe that there is potential there to put american lives at risk. now, mullen tried to make the case that some of this
