Socialist Equality Party (US) National Secretary Joseph Kishore delivered the following report to a meeting titled “Leon Trotsky and the Struggle for Socialism in the 21st Century” in Colombo on December 10.
More than 100 working people and students, including SEP members and supporters from Colombo and outstations, attended the meeting, with a strong delegation from Sri Lanka’s war-torn north.
In a video interview, Kishore spoke about the significance of the meetings being held in Sri Lanka and the connection between the capitalist crisis and the history of the Trotskyist movement.
Ratnayake has dedicated his entire adult life, encompassing some six decades, to the fight for the socialist emancipation of the working class and the oppressed masses.
Jayasekera said that Gunathilake had not wavered one iota from his struggle for revolutionary principles, despite immense difficulties, including state witch-hunts, the thuggery of goons and the treachery of the trade union bureaucracies.
