Why Buhari appointed Faruk Yahaya as new Chief of Army Staff, by Salihi Magashi The Minister of Defence, Bashir Salihi-Magashi, has disclosed the rationale behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of Major General Faruk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff, following the death of Ibrahim Attahiru. Recall that last Friday, Mr Attahiru, along with 12 other Army officers, was involved in the deadly plane crash in Kaduna. On Thursday, Mr Buhari appointed Mr Yahaya as Mr Attahiru’s replacement. Speaking on Mr Yahaya’s appointment, the defence minister, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mohammad Abdulkadri, said President Buhari had put “national interest above ethnic and religious chauvinism”.

Insecurity: Senate in close session with Security Chiefs, others On Kindly Share This Story: Senate on Thursday at plenary went into closed session with some heads of security agencies in the country. The closed session followed the invitation of the security chiefs by the Senate, following the rising insecurity situation in the country. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Service Chiefs that were present at the meeting include the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Lucky Irabor, Chief of Army Staff Maj.-Gen Attahiru Ibrahim, and the Acting Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Usman Baba. Also in attendance were the Directors – General, Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) Maj.-Gen Samuel Adebayo, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Abubakar, and Department of State Services (DSS),Yusuf Magaji Bichi.
