A Cass County Sheriff s deputy saved a dog after falling through the ice herself during the initial rescue attempt.

A Cass County Sheriff s deputy rescued a dog from an icy pond on Wednesday.
Deputies responded to a call saying a dog named Leo fell through the ice on a pond near White Temple Road and Dutch Settlement Road in Penn Township.
Deputy Taryn Shields went onto the ice to help the dog and fell through.
Shields was able to grab Leo and both made it to safety.

PENN TOWNSHIP, Mich. â Deputy Taryn Shields saved a dog that fell through an icy lake, falling through herself before making it to safety.
A call from a neighboring house on White Temple Road came in on Wednesday saying a dog, Leo, had fallen into the lake. Deputy Shields got to the pond and found Leo struggling to stay afloat.
Once Shields got to Leo, she also fell through the ice, but was able to get a hold of him and get them both to shore. Both Leo and Deputy Shields are doing just fine and as of the press release Thursday, finally warming up.
