Concord, NH – You can fish in many of New Hampshire’s managed trout ponds starting on the fourth Saturday in April, and this year’s opening day is April 24. These waters include designated trout ponds, fly-fishing-only ponds, and ponds managed under the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s Wild Trout Program. The ponds managed under wild trout regulations are open only through Labor Day, while the waterbodies managed for other trout species close on October 15. These waters are managed specifically for trout and offer anglers the chance to experience exciting fishing in some of the Granite State’s most scenic surroundings.

Wicked Local
“We went to White Pond, a pretty little Indian bath, lonely now as Walden was, we could almost see the sachem in his canoe in a shadowy cove. Making the circuit of the lake on the shore, we saw marvelous reflections of the colored woods in the water of such singular beauty and novelty that they held us fast to the spot almost to the going down of the sun.” Ralph Waldo Emerson writes about a walk with Ellery Channing on October 28,1848.
The name Sachem’s Cove (Chief’s Cove) in Concord was given to the most remote section of White Pond. Finley and Reggie, one of Finley’s dear friends, were going to trek out to the cove amid the crisp new snow. Karla, Reggie’s parent, well versed in the trail system that criss crossed these woods, was going to lead us there. I was looking forward to this hike since I had often heard about the beauty of the pond but never managed to visit.
