Chloe x Halle has dropped an eye-catching video for their old-school bop Don t Make It Harder On Me.
On Wednesday (December 30), the sister duo unveiled the live performance visual for the soulful and soul-baring ditty, which details the struggle of resisting the temptations of a former flame. Rocking matching emerald outfits, the sisters performed the song live on the Honda Stage for Billboard, which recently recognized the powerhouse pair with the Rising Star honor at its Women in Music 2020 earlier this month. I need you to stop lookin at me like that/ We are just friends now/ You already had your chance,” Chloe sings in the opening verse of the bluesy tune before joining Halle in the sassy, soaring pre-chorus.

To say Chloe x Halle have dominated an unprecedented year in music somehow still feels like an understatement. The Atlanta-born sister duo has been on a tear in 2020, connecting with new audiences while reintroducing themselves to day-one fans with a slew of awe-inspiring performances like their recent outing with NPR’s Tiny Desk. And in a year spent without live music, there was no better way to commemorate the release of
Ungodly Hour, their most critically acclaimed work to date.
The 13-track LP resonated with audiences and earned its place on year-end lists from
Time Magazine, largely due to the pair’s willingness to eschew the “angelic” image that was cast upon them in favor of flaunting their own imperfections. On songs like “Lonely” and “Wonder What She Thinks of Me,” Chloe x Halle lean into this vulnerability, flexing their seasoned writing chops while tackling the somewhat taboo – albeit universal – aspects of 20-something life and love
Eight years since her last release and three years in the making, Brandy Norwood’s
B7 arrived at the end of July like a salve, with warm production and messages of self-love. Her seventh studio album goes to unexpected places, diving headfirst into loneliness, depression and anxiety, while deep bass and watery synthesizers and sometimes actual water sounds, like on “Lucid Dreams” offer her depths to explore. “I’m the most jealous girl in the whole wide world,” she confesses on album standout “Borderline,” her voice dancing atop a ticking hi-hat. Her instrument is still as strong and smoky as it ever was, only now it’s lower and more lived-in. “One day I woke up/ And now my love is unstuck,” she sings on the closing piano ballad, “Bye BiPolar.” “I can see who you really are/ ’Cause I’m a star.
