bret: yeah. morgan, you look at the new york times, siena poll out today and byron mentions massive lead and tracks the polls the president is up inside that poll there are 4%, roughly, who believe that the among republicans that the former president really committed serious felonies and of those 22% of those are still voting for him, they say. and, in that environment, you know, the governor has to find traction. and talking about that, saying got to campaign on not being chaos, you wonder if it s going to work. listen, this applies to whether it s a presidential run, a congressional run, or if you are running for dog catcher. you have to connect with people emotionally. they have to know where you are. not just that you have the best policies and that you are the smartest person in the room. they have to know and feel that you are there for them and that you are going to fight for them. that s what is so much of the republican base has with donald trump. that s why i think it
comeback, it would be the greatest come back in political history. some of the candidates that are doing trump, it s more personal for them. they are attacking him on personal stuff. that s just not my cup of tea. you know, i m a leader. i m running for you. i m not running for me. bret: florida governor ron desantis talking about the attacks or lack thereof, the criticism of candidates not attacking the former president who is the, by far, the leading candidate in the g.o.p. primary so far. let s bring in our panel morgan ortagus former state department spokesperson. byron york and leslie marshall democratic strategist. morgan, let me start with you your thoughts on the intiew, whatinterviewwhat you took away. you are always the tough person to ask the questions and you certainly gave it to the governor. i think that s important because, you know, you threw every sort of critique of his campaign at him. he did have solid answers.
bret: leslie, we talked a little bit about culture war. he doesn t like that phrase. he doesn t think it s the focus. however his campaign has focused on some of those issues. here is some of that pushback from him. you don t win a state like florida that big if you re not doing things that are resonating. i would push back. what i hear about culture war, standing up for the rights of parents. standing up for the well-being of children, that s not some, quote, culture war. that is central to the lives of tens of millions of people throughout this country. bret: leslie, that said, he said today he spent talking as morgan mentioned about economic pillars and talking about new hampshire economy. well, voters care more about the economy, whether you are a democrat or republican, an independent, whether you love trump or going to give desantis a try. i would echo some of what morgan said, including that you give great interview, bret. you do. and i like the fact that you ask
