the people that have access to these bases that they are not criminals. that gets us to the second part that brian was talking about. what hagel needs to figure out now, top officials say, is how to look at this very issue of security clearances. what are the standards, procedures, and practices by which people get security clearances in the first place? do changes need to be made in that? wolf? what do we know about these eight accidenincidences of misc? have they told us what they have involved? sure, wolf. pentagon officials are saying it involves things, as you say, relatively minor. but still taken quite seriously by the military. insubordination, being absent without leave, that sort of thing. one incident of drunkenness,
the fact is any prospect for peace or political settlements, that has to be led by the afghans. karzai had been complaining that, again, as i say that the u.s. and taliban were essentially colluding with violence. karzai was even saying that the u.s. and the taliban were talking and negotiating a separate deal behind his back. that s some of what hagel was reacting to. and the white house just a few moments ago, suzanne, also weighing in saying that these karzai allegations simply are not true. suzanne. all right. barbara, thank you. we appreciate it. now to a battle of course brewing here in washington. as you know the tsa is now going to allow certain kinds of small knives on planes. and lawmakers, new york senator chuck schumer says tsa should reverse this, that this is not a good idea. some pilots, flight attendants and even federal air marshals are weighing in as well saying
in the united states, obviously everybody has heard of it. in the western world everybody has heard of it. but it underscores why no foreign power has been able to go in there and build a government. one person in the house voted against the invasion and she was vilified 11 years ago. it was the necessary war. 12 years ago when that happened. if we had that vote today it would be a little different. what hagel that, i found it to be a completely irrational explanation for what karzai is doing. it may be distasteful for to us hear what he is saying or look at the actions he is taking or not taking, but he is acting as what he is. as he politician in afghanistan who as you say is worried about his personal survival and his political survival and his political relevance. the lesson we ought to draw, if he is not shaping public opinion in afghanistan as much as reflecting it which is what politicians generally do, what does that tell you about public opinion in afghanistan? what does t
