Map shows who got vaccine doses to distribute in Chatham

Two months into the COVID vaccines distribution, nearly 50,000 Chatham County residents have received at least one dose of vaccine, for a rate of 26,365 per 100,000 residents. That s about 1.6 times better than the statewide rate of 16,594 per 10,000 residents.  But who in Chatham County is most likely to have gotten the vaccine is less clear. Statewide, the Georgia Department of Public Health Vaccine Dashboard as of Monday at noon indicated about 17% of recipients so far have been Black, 63% white and 4% Asian. Georgia is about 33% Black, 60% white, and 4% Asian. Less than 2% of recipients statewide identified as Hispanic, though no ethnicity was listed for more than a third of vaccine recipients.

COVID vaccine: St Johns County residents connect vulnerable to shots

As the COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues in St. Johns County, people are reaching out to residents in underserved areas to educate them as well as assist with vaccinations. The vaccines are available by appointment with St. Johns County government and certain retail outlets such as Publix, but some people don t have access to technology or transportation, and some have trouble navigating the registration process. Another challenge is that incorrect information about the vaccine has spread fear. So people are working together in St. Johns County to connect residents with vaccines and correct information so they can make well-informed choices. One outreach effort happened last week.
