Two people on broken yacht rescued

TWO people on a yacht were rescued and brought to safety late last night. Weymouth Lifeboat towed the broken yacht and called Wyke Coastguard to assist them at 10.30pm amid high winds and dangerous weather conditions. The two people and their yacht were brought back to the safety of Weymouth Harbour. A spokesman for Wyke Coastguard Rescue Team said: We were tasked at 10.30pm to meet Weymouth Lifeboat at the waiting pontoon. They were towing a yacht which had broken its mooring with two persons on board. The wind was blowing 50 knts with gusts of 65mph. They luckily negotiated the northern entrance of Portland harbour into Weymouth Bay. The lifeboat retrieved the yacht half a mile off Redcliff Point and brought them to the safety of Weymouth Harbour.

Three kitesurfers rescued off Ferrybridge

THREE kitesurfers have been rescued after getting into difficulties in the water. Wyke Coastguard and Weymouth Lifeboat were called to help a kite surfer after a concerned member of the public contacted them. When coastguard officers arrived at Ferrybridge, it was reported the kite surfer had made his own way to shore, however, two more kitesurfers needed help. A spokesman for Wyke Coastguard said: On arrival at Ferrybridge, the reported casualty had made his own way ashore. However two more kitesurfers were in difficulties. They were recovered from the water by Weymouth Lifeboat and Portland Port s rigid inflatable boat. All three were assisted ashore by team members with their equipment, checked over and with no medical assistance required left to return to their vehicles.

Police, coastguard and RNLI crew locate and rescue high-risk person in Portland

A MAJOR operation was launched this afternoon to search for a high risk casualty on Portland. The Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT), Weymouth inshore lifeboat and police were all involved in the search for the person thought to be in the area of Portland Castle, Castletown at around 12.30pm today. The search team was able to locate the person and they were taken into the care of the ambulance service. A spokesman for Portland Bill CRT said: The team were by tasked by Solent Coastguard - Operations Centre along with Weymouth Lifeboat ILB to assist Weymouth & Portland Police to search for a high-risk missing person in the Portland Castle area.
