Gyda Westvold Hansen golden in women’s WSC premiere © NordicFocus Gyda Westvold Hansen (NOR) will go down in the history books of Nordic Combined as the first-ever female World Champion of the discipline. Much in the style of her famous cousin Therese Johaug, Westvold Hansen dominated the event today and won by 13.8 seconds. Her teammates, sisters Mari and Marte Leinan Lund swept the podium for Norway by finishing second and third after Mari passed her sister on the way into the stadium when she crashed. Marte crossed the finish line +28.8 seconds after the winner and defended the bronze medal by 10.9 seconds against a fast approaching Anju Nakamura (JPN).

Westvold Hansen triumphs at Nordic Junior World Ski Championships Wednesday, 10 February 2021 Norway’s Gyda Westvold Hansen triumphed in the women s Nordic combined event at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Lahti. The 18-year-old led from the start in the Finnish capital, scoring 117.8 points in the jump round to have a 43 second advantage in the five kilometre race.  Italy’s Annika Sieff was second out of the blocks after scoring 107.1, while Mille Moen Flatla scored 106.2 to start 46 seconds behind her compatriot.  Westvold Hansen maintained her lead throughout the race and finished in 15mins 24.8secs.  Norway s Marte Leinan Lund, who started the race 48 seconds off the leader, managed to catch both Flatla and Sieff by the end of the first lap and placed second in 16:30.5.

And the familiar result for Tara Geraghty-Moats: victory. The West Fairlee 27-year-old made history on Friday by winning the first-ever women’s FIS World Cup Nordic combined ski meet in Ramsau, Austria. The event consisting of one jump off a 98-meter ramp followed by a 5-kilometer freestyle cross country ski race had originally been scheduled for Lillehammer, Norway, in early December but was postponed by COVID-19 restrictions, then eventually moved and reset for Austria. Friday’s event was the latest progression in a sport for which Geraghty-Moats has fought for World Cup and Olympic recognition. The latter is still a work in progress, but in addition to a limited World Cup schedule this winter, women will compete in Nordic combined for the first time at this season’s FIS Nordic Ski World C
