Subscriber only WESTERN Pride coach of the week Brian Hastings will monitor two sore goalkeepers after a dramatic night of football in Toowoomba. Major off-season recruit Jake Reesby and exciting Ipswich talent Josh Boyle were both injured in Saturday night s 2-1 loss to South West Queensland Thunder. It was Pride s first defeat and toughest test from four matches in the 2021 Football Queensland Premier League 1 competition. The result against one of the competition heavyweights proved Pride are up with the better teams this season, rising from a sluggish start to push Thunder in the second half. I m hoping in the big scheme of things that is our first speed bump, Hastings said.

Subscriber only THE Ipswich Knights have received some welcome news as they prepare to maintain their recent Friday night record at Bundamba. Skilful attacking midfielder Mitch Herrmann has been cleared of an ankle fracture meaning he can return to training and hopefully be back on the field soon. That comes after initial fears he could be out for an extended period after suffering the injury in the Knights season-opening victory over Mitchelton. Knights head coach Andy Ogden was delighted to have Herrmann on the comeback trail as the Ipswich side returns to the Football Queensland Premier League 1 competition following another FFA Cup victory.

Subscriber only SCORING three goals in the last seven minutes showed the Western Pride women s side has plenty of character. Pride s latest 4-2 National Premier League s win over home side Logan also provided a satisfying moment on Saturday night. Pride trio - captain Meaghan McElligott, April Gleeson and Meg Krautz - played in the Logan team last season before joining coach Trent Gregson s revitalised squad for the 2021 season. It was really good to get the win for them, Gregson said. Gregson s Coomera captain last year Brittney Lacek is current Logan leader. It was like little battles inside the battle last night, which made the win a little bit sweeter, Gregson said.

Subscriber only WITH his burst of speed and lethal zigzagging runs, Atillio Will Asante deserved to score his first premiership goal for Western Pride. He was heavily marked and crunch tackled on a chilly Thursday night in Ipswich yet still produced a classic header to secure Pride s third consecutive victory of the Football Queensland Premier League 1 season. But don t bother calling him Atillio. The Italian-bred attacking weapon is happy to be known by his Aussie name Will or William. Asante s 79th minute matchwinner at the Briggs Road Sporting Complex set up Pride s latest victory over a determined Southside Eagles side.
