UPDATE: Fire marshal investigating Hooker Hollow fire

NEW CREEK - The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of a blaze that heavily damaged a Hooker Hollow Road residence early Wednesday morning.
One person was injured during the fire and taken to WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital for treatment, while another person, who was also injured and to be transported to PVH, got into an altercation with two Mineral County Sheriff’s Deputies and died at the scene from a gunshot wound.
According to a spokesperson for the New Creek Volunteer Fire Department, they were alerted to the fire at 1316 Hooker Hollow Road at 6:21 a.m., and arrived on the scene to find a one-story single family dwelling with fire evident on the first floor and basement.
MARTINSBURG â One Morgan County resident was left injured after a residential structure fire believed to be caused by ignited Christmas decorations engulfed the home.
According to a press release shared on the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company Facebook page, units were called to respond to a residential structure fire on Grove Heights Road on Monday around 7:46 p.m.
The release said Wagon 1 from Berkeley Springs VFC responded at 7:54 p.m., followed by Engine 12 and Rescue Squad 1. Wagon 1 was the first-arriving suppression apparatus and arrived moments after Morgan County EMS Medic 7-1, the release said.
âAn off duty paramedic on the scene was reporting the residence to be evacuated and informed incoming crews of fire showing on side Delta at the Delta / Charlie corner,â the release said. âWagon 1 arrived shortly after the report and initially advanced an attack line to the Delta side to begin knocking the fire.â
