The economic downturn from COVID has had a disproportionate impact on these students, causing many to delay or abandon college plans. Getting and keeping them on track to earn a college degree is an urgent challenge. A new partnership began in the MetroWest region last year that puts more students on a path to college, prepares them for the rigors of college coursework, enables them to earn college credits while in high school, and saves their families thousands of dollars in tuition and fees - because it’s free. Most important, its focus is on closing college attainment gaps for low-income, Black, and Latinx students. The program deserves broad support.
