AMITE — Powerful storms, including possibly a tornado, tore across a portion of the WBRZ viewing area on Tuesday, knocking out power to thousands in an area from St. Francisville to north of Hammond. State Police closed Interstate 55 at Amite amid damage reports from the area.
UPDATE (5/31/24, 1:30am) the line of showers and thunderstorms continues to weaken while moving east. While some light rain and thunder may continue for the next few hours, the threat for severe weather has ended in the Metro Area. The SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH will expire at 2am Friday.
