Cyclone Yaas to make landfall in between Sagar Island in Bengal and Paradip in Odisha
Kolkata: The Met department on Sunday said that the cyclone Yaas will make landfall in West Bengal with maximum wind-speed of 165kmph. âThe Depression over eastcentral Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of five kmph during the past six hours. 90 km north-northwest of Port Blair (Andaman Islands), 570 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha) and 650 km south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal). It is very likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm by May 24 and further into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm during the subsequent 24 hours and by May 26 evening it will make the landfall between Paradip and Sagar island,â said Sanjib Bandhopadhyay, joint director IMD.

Amid increasing coronavirus cases in the state, the West Bengal government on Saturday announced a completed lockdown from May 16 till 30. The lockdown will come into effect from tomorrow morning (Sunday) starting from 6 am.
On Friday, Bengal registered its highest single-day spike of 20,846 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 10,94,802, the health department said in its bulletin.
With 136 more fatalities, the death toll in Bengal has jumped to 12,993, the bulletin said.
