West Barnstable Fire Department gets ready for spring Barbara Clark COURTESY PHOTO Early spring brings increased activity in and around the village of West Barnstable, including several happenings in the Fire District, so on a recent Thursday morning, this reporter pulled up in front of the West Barnstable Fire Station on Route 149 to hear more about what’s new, including one weighty, 5-ton addition. West Barnstable Fire Chief Joseph Maruca extended a welcome and offered a close-up look at the new addition to the department’s fleet of fire and rescue vehicles. We headed through the apparatus bay, passing through a tall canyon of red and silver vehicles parked close in the space, while firefighter Luke Walsh eased the new truck outside into the driveway to afford a better look.

3-vehicle crash backs up Route 6 traffic in West Barnstable on Tuesday

WEST BARNSTABLE  The West Barnstable Fire Department, Massachusetts DOT and Massachusetts State Police were called to the scene of a three-vehicle crash on Route 6 Tuesday morning. A call came in at 8:33 a.m. for an accident involving a pickup truck, a small sedan and a tractor-trailer pulling a load of stone, according to West Barnstable Fire Department Capt. William Murray. Stone was strewn across both lanes of Route 6 eastbound. Rescue personnel brought one person with minor injuries to Cape Cod Hospital. The driver of the semi-truck was not transported. The crash happened just east of Exit 5 on Route 6. Eastbound traffic was diverted off the highway exit onto Route 149.
