Cardington pays for work at plant
CARDINGTON Topics were wide ranging when Village Council met Monday, April 19.
Addressing council was Dave Krock, partner with OHM advisors engineering firm, who described the shortage in funding and the additional engineering costs for the recent upgrading of the water treatment plant.
Council approved the additional payment to the firm in the amount of $50,000. Krock was accompanied by the village’s engineer, Scott Hines.
On other business:
• Wes Goodman. representing Friends of Cardington, and Rick Mitchell from Bunker’s Mill Winery described the planned Wine Arts Festival taking place in Cardington on Sept. 25.
• Lea Ann Maceyko with Friends of Cardington, detailed plans for the festival planned for the village in June. Among the attractions will be the annual fireworks sponsored by Cardington Yutaka Technologies. Council donated $1,000 to the event.

Scammers’ delight: “Unemployment scammers appear to have targeted Ohio to an unprecedented degree last week, as tens of thousands of new claims were flagged as potentially fraudulent,” writes Jeremy Pelzer. State officials said as a result of having to review all the new claims for fraud, Ohio’s already lengthy wait times for benefits will become even longer for some legitimate applicants.
Job one: Ohio Department of Health Director Stephanie McCloud shed a little more light on how 4,100 coronavirus-related deaths never got reported to the public, saying that one employee was responsible for checking two separate death databases and adjusting figures from each. The employee got overwhelmed, McCloud said, and didn’t tell anyone, Laura Hancock and Rich Exner report.

CARDINGTON Newly renovated and rebranded, the Main Street Bar and Grill, 217 W. Main St., offers expanded seating and an updated, varied menu.
Managed by Daniel West and Avanza Vaile, the business now includes ten spacious booths, Including five double size tables, several hi-top tables and a full bar.
Soft lighting enhances the beauty of the wood both in the booths and the flooring.
West, the executive chef and U. S. Navy veteran, will employ six to eight other positions. West is from Philadelphia and has been cooking for 12 years. His original, hand-pattied burgers are well know in this area.
