Scammers’ delight: “Unemployment scammers appear to have targeted Ohio to an unprecedented degree last week, as tens of thousands of new claims were flagged as potentially fraudulent,” writes Jeremy Pelzer. State officials said as a result of having to review all the new claims for fraud, Ohio’s already lengthy wait times for benefits will become even longer for some legitimate applicants.
Job one: Ohio Department of Health Director Stephanie McCloud shed a little more light on how 4,100 coronavirus-related deaths never got reported to the public, saying that one employee was responsible for checking two separate death databases and adjusting figures from each. The employee got overwhelmed, McCloud said, and didn’t tell anyone, Laura Hancock and Rich Exner report.
