Steve Reddy is the council s director of children s services and also leads the authority s domestic abuse strategy. His comments have been described as misogynistic and as showing seriously flawed judgement and Liverpool Council has said it is carrying out an investigation and will take appropriate action. Mr Reddy s tweet, which has now been deleted, made reference to his mother-in-law drowning in a car crash and suggested he had ordered a funeral wreath in the shape of a life-belt.

A senior Liverpool City Council director is being probed over a misogynistic post on his Twitter account which made reference to his mother-in-law drowning. Children s services director Steve Reddy, who also leads the authority s domestic abuse strategy, made reference to his mother-in-law drowning in a car crash and suggested he had ordered a funeral wreath in the shape of a life-belt. Mr Reddy has since deleted the tweet from his personal Twitter account and apologised unreservedly for the unintentional offence caused. However Liverpool City Council is now facing calls to remove Mr Reddy from his position as chair of the authority s Domestic Abuse Strategy Group.
