Housing provider Calico Homes, with architecture studio Brock Carmichael, has drawn up designs for 90 extra care apartments and a community hub on four acres of derelict land at Burnley General Hospital.
A public consultation on the £14m proposals launches today and runs for a month. The scheme would be “the first of its kind” in Burnley, according to Calico, and is intended to provide specialist assisted living accommodation in a neighbourhood setting to improve quality of life and reduce isolation.
The apartments would be targeted primarily for people aged over 55 who require extra support and proximity to the hospital, but wish to maintain as much independence as possible.
A HOUSING association has announced the completion of 133 new homes which it hopes will create vibrant neighbourhoods. The homes, built by Calico Homes with Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction and BTP Architects, can be found across four sites in Burnley and Pendle. Worth a total of £18.3 million, Calico says they are part of the association s wider plans to build housing across East Lancashire. Calico Homes managing director Mark Beach said: “We’ve invested in these four developments of high quality homes to help improve communities in Burnley. It’s been great to have architects BTP on board, they have designed homes that offer something for people of all ages and provide accessible homes for those who need them.”
