rick: it might be in the middle of the afternoon on the east coast, shoppers have been up since dawn chasing the bargains. joining us now is grant cardelan a sales and personal finance expert, author of if you re not first your last sales strategy to dominate your market and beat your competition good to see you. thanks for coming in. what do you make of the folks out at the crack of down, 3:00 in the morning holding spaces to try to be be the first. what is the mindset of people. well rick the mindset is exactly what a retailer depends on, that the consumer is driven by price. they are out looking for the best deal when in fact that is not the way to get a best deal. the best deal, this is what retailers plan on. they are like okay we are going to put a best price out there to drive traffic, the consumer

a pair of shoes, she saw a pair on sale for 75% off. she said that s an incredible deal, i have to get this pair of shoes. rick: have you been talking to my wife, grant. yes i have. her toes are a tad bit over, she knows they don t fit, she makes the decision on the price. and on her way out of the store she business a $1,200 purse. that s what the retailers depend on the second purchase. rick: i ve got to get out of here. what time is this show over. she comes home and brags to you how good a deal she said but the truth is she ll only use these shoes one time. it s not really what she needed. rick: this is not what i wanted to hear. let s give some advice out there for people like my wife, and others out there who may find it hard to resist this kind of thing. what do you do, how do you keep yourself from spending more than you can afford and buying things you don t need?
