The city of Fairfield Water department has advised a boil order in affect for the 100 block of W Wilson Street per the cities facebook page last night. Water used for human consumption should be boiled until samples have passed inspection. On 08/11/22, at 2:12 AM, Fairfield Police, along with Wayne County Deputies, responded to Mach 1, 800 W Main Street, Fairfield, IL on a report of a physical altercation at that location. Following an investigation, Joshua W Poff, 37 of Flora, IL was placed under arrest by Fairfield Officers for Aggravated Battery against Brandon PJ Wheeler, 18 of McLeansboro, IL. He was transported to the Wayne County Jail and lodged pending a court appearance for setting of bond. Additional charges are pending. Fairfield Police are investigating an incident over the past weekend where a black 1000 Jeep Cherokee that was parked on the parking lot at 901 SW 4th Street, Fairfield, IL was turned over onto it's top. The Wayne County Board met Thursday evening with only 8 members present. ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds requests were discussed with the following disbursements unanimously approved: Circuit Clerk $55,000, Emergency Management Agency $47,000, Frontier College $12,000, Humane Society $69,000. The board unanimously approved Engineering work for the 161 & Enterprise Road project. It is unknown when work will begin on the project. The board approved the addition of a $5.00 fee for criminal and traffic charges. The additional funds will be used to assist in Drug Court funding. Sheriff Chris Otey updated the board on Operation 96-6 conducted last week which resulted in the arrest of 12 drug suspects. He further stated that the department had 27 felony arrests in June. He praised his deputies and corrections staff for their excellent work. County Clerk Lizann Woodrow provided a summary of the recent primary election. The Wayne County Board met last night and approved a new contract with the Wayne County Humane Society. The updated language calls for the society to handle after-hour bite calls. County Highway Engineer Dennis Seidel reported bid letting will take place next Friday for proposed work at the Enterprise Road/161 intersection north of Fairfield, and Jill Short, representing the Wayne County Housing Authority, made a request to reduce that organization's payment. The matter was tabled, pending further board study. The Fairfield Park Board met last night and authorized the formation of a separate, small checking account for electronic payments at the pool via PayPal or Venmo. Electronic payments do have transaction fees, and the board discussed adding a small park transaction to set fees to recoup those losses.
