Several Sentences Handed Down Tuesday in Wayne County Court

In Wayne County Court Tuesday, 34-year-old Brittany Trotter of Mount Vernon was sentenced to 2 years of probation following a guilty plea to charges of unlawful possession of meth and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Trotter will also be responsible for court costs of $5585.00 28-year-old Justin Bowsher of Wayne City was sentenced to 18 months of probation with conditional discharge for domestic battery. Bowsher is also responsible for court costs of $1064. 53-year-old Nathaniel Hutchinson was sentenced to 6 months of court supervision following a guilty plea of battery. Hutchinson will also have to pay court costs of $739. 43-year-old Christopher T. Kennedy of Sims plead guilty to unlawful possession of meth and was sentenced to 24 months of probation. Kennedy will be responsible for court costs of $3705. 27-year-old Cody Thompson of Olney pled guilty to possession of meth. He is currently serving federal time in South Carolina. Rinard Woman Sentenced on Meth Case

A Rinard woman was sentenced in Wayne County Court Tuesday on a charge of unlawful delivery of meth. 42-year-old Tammy Suprenant pled guilty on November 29th to the charge. In sentencing on Tuesday, Suprenant learned that she will be serving 2 years of probation and will be required to pay court costs of $4641. The case dated back to an arrest in October of 2021.

59-year-old Penny Randolph-Bailey appeared in Wayne County Court on January 12th, pleading guilty to a charge of Retail Theft, and a charge of Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine. Randolph-Bailey was initially arrested on the charge of Retail Theft, a Class A Misdemeanor, on February 10, 2022. She was again arrested on March 3, 2022 for Unlawful Possession of Meth, a Class 2 Felony. In the Retail Theft case, Randolph-Bailey was ordered to pay a total of $250 in fines and costs. In Wayne County Court Tuesday, 43-year-old Paxton D. Bruce pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful Meth conspiracy of more than 15 grams, a class x felony. As a part of s plea agreement, the prosecution decided to drop charges of unlawful possession of meth and fortification of a residence. Bruce will serve 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with credit for 127 days for time served. All money, ammunition, and weapons seized belong so Wayne County. The value of the seized assets was $2245.00.

The District V Ag Education Career Development Event was held on Tuesday, December 6th at Mt. Vernon High School. Students participating submitted a lesson plan, prior to the event, that they would teach to an Introduction to Agriculture Education class. Participants then presented a ten minute segment of their designed lesson to a room of students while the judges observed. The individuals participating were scored on their lesson plan, delivery of lesson as well as follow-up questions in addition to their provided reflection and a written test. Chloe Iles, from Edwards County FFA, participated in the competition. She received 8th place. She also competed in the Section 23 Ag Education CDE and placed in 2nd. Congratulations to Chloe!
