Teesta’s water sharing issue: Possible to move forward only after West Bengal assembly polls

India today conveyed to Bangladesh that any steps forward on the long-unresolved issue of sharing of Teesta water will be possible only after completion of the assembly elections in West Bengal.
This was said during the talks of Water Resources Secretaries of Bangladesh and India in New Delhi after Dhaka brought up the issue, official sources said according to our New Delhi correspondent.
The eight-phased West Bengal polls end on April 29 and the counting of votes is scheduled for May 2.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Tungipara in Gopalganj on March 26 to pay homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“It’s his (Modi) desire to visit Tungipara. It’s yet to be finalised,” Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen told reporters at his office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi are scheduled to have Summit-level talks in Dhaka on March 27, taking forward the relations between the two countries keeping the celebratory year in focus.

Dhaka, Feb 4 : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his wish to visit Tungipara in Bangladesh the birthplace of the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, popularly known as Bangabandhu, the country s Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said.
Speaking to IANS on Wednesday, Momen said Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is likely to visit Bangladesh before Modi s scheduled tour in March.

Bangladesh and India will hold four secretary-level meetings before the Summit meeting between the two prime ministers to give inputs for the March-27 talks.
The meeting between the Water Resources Secretaries of the two countries will be held in New Delhi while Commerce Secretary-level, Home Secretary-level and Shipping Secretary-level talks will be held in Dhaka.
