Green was fired as Water Rescue Chief after the discovery of the missing gravel. An audit of the department s banking records, performed while the county was appointing a new chief, found debits that were suspicious in nature, according to the news release. The information from the audit was turned over to the sheriff s office.
Detective Shawn Elder s investigation found that Green had improperly used $12,000 of the department s money over the past eight years for personal use. Green was charged with theft by unlawful taking, $10,000 or more but less than $1,000,000, and was transported to Webster County Jail.
He remains in jail, according to records.
