Green was fired as Water Rescue Chief after the discovery of the missing gravel. An audit of the department's banking records, performed while the county was appointing a new chief, found debits that were "suspicious in nature," according to the news release. The information from the audit was turned over to the sheriff's office.
Detective Shawn Elder's investigation found that Green had improperly used $12,000 of the department's money over the past eight years for personal use. Green was charged with theft by unlawful taking, $10,000 or more but less than $1,000,000, and was transported to Webster County Jail.
He remains in jail, according to records.
