Oman sets new launch dates for Manah Solar I & II power projects LEADS SHARE
MUSCAT, May 13 The Omani government’s plans for the procurement of two major utility-scale solar powered projects in the interior of the country are still on track, although implementation and commercial operation timelines are expected to be delayed by a year.
According to Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) – the sole buyer of electricity output, the Manah Solar I and II Independent Power Projects (IPPs) – each having a generation capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) – are now slated for commercial operation in Q4 2023 and Q1 2024 respectively.
This compares with earlier timelines of Q4 2022 and Q1 2023 respectively.

Nama Group, the holding company of government-owned assets in Oman’s electricity and related water sector, reported a 4.77 percent increase in revenue last year, which climbed to RO 1.31 billion in 2020.
Profit After Tax increased 12.29 per cent to RO 67.82 million, while revenue towards electricity subsidy dipped 1.5 percent to RO 615 million. Total assets of the Group reached RO 6.75 billion in 2020.
The figures were disclosed by Ghada Mohammed al Yousef, Executive Manager, Group Communication and Sustainability, at the annual press briefing of the Group on Tuesday. The briefing was attended by Eng Omar al Wahaibi, CEO of Nama Group, as well as CEOs of Nama Group subsidiaries.

Oman’s electricity generation fell by 2.6% until end of November 2020

Muscat: Oman’s total electricity production until the end of November 2020 fell by 2.6 per cent to reach 35,540.9GW per hour compared to the same month in 2019, when the total production was 36,506.5GW per hour.
Meanwhile, water production until the end of October 2020 increased by 6.5 per cent to reach 396.83 million cubic metres compared to 372.57 million cubic metres in the same period in 2019, according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The total electricity production in the governorates of Al Batinah and A’Dhahirah reached 22,251.1GW per hour until the end of November 2020, recording an average increase of 1.1 per cent over the same period in 2019, when the production was 21,998.2 GW per hour. The total electricity production in A’Sharqiyah reached 7,854.0GW per hour compared to an output of 7,787GW last year, recording a decline of 0.9
