Acwa Power gears up for commissioning of big Oman solar project
MUSCAT, January 19, 2021 Shams Ad-Dhahira Generating Company (SAGC), a company backed by a consortium of Saudi-based Acwa Power, a major developer, owner, and operator of power generation and water desalination plants, is gearing up for the commissioning of Oman’s biggest solar photovoltaic (PV) project - the 500 MW Ibri 2 - ahead of its full commercial operation in mid-2021. The mega project, coming up on a 1,300-hectare site in the country s northwest region of Ibri, is being developed in consortium with top Kuwaiti groups Gulf Investment Corporation and Alternative Energy Projects Company.
Acwa Power gears up for commercial ops of $160m Oman IWP project
MUSCAT, January 13, 2021 A major independent water project - being developed by Saudi-based Acwa Power in consortium with French utility company Veolia and Oman-based Dhofar International Development and Investment Holding Company (Didic) in the Salalah region of Oman - is set for commercial operations, said a report. The 25-million-imperial-gallons-per-day (MIGD) capacity project is being set up near Mirbat outside Salalah at an investment of $160 million, reported Oman Observer. One of the largest players in Oman, Acwa Power is a key developer and operator of power and desalinated water plants headquartered in Riyadh.
Electricity production falls 3.1% in October

Muscat: The Sultanate s total electricity production at the end of October 2020 fell 3.1 per cent to reach 32,891.5 GW per hour compared to the end of the same month of 2019 when the total production was 33,955.1 GW per hour.
Meanwhile, water production at the end of October 2020 increased by 6.5 per cent to reach 396.83 million cubic metres compared to 372.57 million cubic metres in the same period in 2019, according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The total electricity production in the Governorates of Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah reached 20,455.7 GW per hour at the end of October 2020 compared to the same period of 2019, when the production was 20,532 GW per hour. The total electricity production in Al Sharqiah reached 7,432.9 GW per hour compared to an output of 7,240.5 GW last year, recording a rise of 2.7 per cent.
