Governor gavin newsom is appointing Democratic Party strategist Laphonza Butler to serve out the remainder of senator feinsteins term until the until the 2024 election. Butler is the current leader of the Political Action committee. Emilys list. The Group Supports Democratic Women candidates who favor abortion rights. Notably, she has served as an adviser to the Kamala Harris 2020 president ial campaign. Butler will be the only black woman to serve in the senate and the first openly lgbtq person to represent california in that chamber. Newsom says butler will step down from her. Emily emilys list role to assume the duties of senator and the governor. Also says butler will move from maryland back to california and rewrite register to vote here. Meanwhile
