technology. we ve heard about the sexual harassment issues. we ve been looking at to closely. it is coming to the surface now like in all other industries. brianna, i spoke to multiple women who are telling me their treatment wasn t okay, they are fed up and they want to take a stand. take a listen. everybody talks about how to progresses and so forward-thinking. reporter: silicon volley promised to code solutions to the world s problems, but it can t seem to fix one of its own. gender discrimination, sexual discrimination, harassment. reporter: in may, elizabeth scott filed a lawsuit against her former employer, upload vr, it s a powerful start-up in silicon valley and also had a reputation for its parties. i thought these are young like me. reporter: daisy burns is another former employee. i was blown away by what i had gotten myself into. reporter: young founders, millions in funding, a party culture. it created a perfect storm according to elizabeth s lawsuit. one m
. are it was disturbing and disappointing and it made my blood boil and it got me to thinking about also what i see in many ways in our industry because this is where we work but across the board if we look at different interactions and they re not always physical, there s a clear abuse of power and i think a lot of what we re seeing and what women and men are speaking about now all goes back to this need to remind women who is in charge. who is the person in power. and who they should in some ways bow down to for lack of a better phrase. yes. but what you were talking about about the stories that we ve all maybe through our careers told our girlfriends or our boyfriends or husbands and now what was the click for you to think, oh, wait, after all these many years maybe that wasn t okay. honestly it was talking with friends and after i spoke with
about women who say they had to clean up underwear and condoms from parties and it was a startup. the idea was to make virtual reality cool so they would throw these parties. and down the road, it took a lawsuit, a woman named elizabeth, who is not really allowed to speak about it because it s been setstled. daisy said she was the one handed the lawsuit when it came in. she said it wasn t until i saw it all in writing that i knew it wasn t okay, what happened there. this is where we get into the idea of the me-too movement. you see other victims of sexual harassment coming forward and sharing their story. i think that s what spurred it. and personally having covered tech for so many years, i started thinking of some terrible techs axts an investor
out of congress for that, i think that s where it goes too far. but i don t see a problem in having an enforcement mechanism in place for really inappropriate behavior. john. what al franken did was never okay, what harvey weinstein did was never okay. what bill clinton did wasn t okay. bill clinton s a rapist. and john, would you include the president in there as well? i certainly think he uses language like he s on a loading dock. absolutely, all the time. so did george h.w. bush. he detailed specific accusations. he doesn t just talk like he s on a loading dock. we had a woman who ran interference for a rapist donald trump is not giving us the moral leadership that we need. the country is moving forward. the time of mad men was a different period of time. we ve moved forward from that.
