WARREN Incumbent Warren City Clerk Sonja Buffa and Macomb County Commissioner Mai Xiong were the top-two finishers in the Aug. 8 primary election among three candidates vying to become the city’s clerk for the next four years. They will now move on to the general election Nov. 7.
A civil rights case filed in federal court by Warren Mayor James Fouts had a status conference Tuesday morning, but no date was set for oral arguments.
Macomb County Clerk Anthony Forlini filed a motion Aug. 9 to dismiss a federal lawsuit filed against him, the Warren CIty Council, Warren Election Commission and Warren City Clerk Sonja Buffa by Warren Mayor James Fouts on Aug. 2.
Despite Warren Mayor James Fouts serving his final term in the position he has held since 2007, primary election results indicate he still wields significant influence in the city with all of the candidates he endorsed advancing to the general election in November.
Less than a week before the Aug. 8 primary election, Warren Mayor James Fouts announced Wednesday that a civil rights lawsuit has been filed in federal court alleging violation of his civil rights because of his exclusion from the mayoral primary ballot.
