Year 7 students at Wardle Academy recently experienced a virtual tour of Neeli Mosque in Rochdale. Imam Mirazam Khan led a question and answer session which helped students understand the importance of the mosque as a central point of worship and how the sense of community links to the values of the school s Wardle Way . Students in Year 7 have been studying the importance of religious buildings to different faith communities and took the opportunity to raise the central questions generated through their studies. Imam Mirazam offered insightful answers, helped illustrate the importance of charity within the Islamic community and discussed the challenges presented for collective worship in the wake of a pandemic.

Rochdale Multi-Faith Partnership release short film to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day Date published: 27 January 2021 Holocaust Memorial Day is commemorated on 27 January every year Holocaust Memorial Day takes place on 27 January each year and Rochdale borough holds an annual commemoration, hosted in a different part of the borough each year in rotation – Heywood, Middleton, Littleborough and Rochdale. This year, the commemoration was due to take place in Rochdale, however due to Covid-19 it was not possible to hold a public event. As an alternative, the Borough of Rochdale Multi-Faith Partnership, supported by Rochdale Safer Communities Partnership, has produced a digital film to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and other genocides past and present. It also aims to raise awareness that the threat and potential for genocide taking place somewhere in the world is an ever-present reality.

Holocaust survivor speaks with Wardle Academy students Date published: 26 January 2021 Tomi Komoly Students at Wardle Academy recently heard the testimony of Holocaust survivor Tomi Komoly in a special online session. Tomi, 84, spoke to year 9, 10 and 11 students on 14 January about his childhood, the loss of his father and the stress and hardship his mother faced throughout the period that his homeland of Hungary was occupied by the Nazis. Tomi was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1936 and when Hungary came under the control of the German Army in 1944, Tomi’s life was changed dramatically. His father was forced to sell his business and forced to join a labour unit of the Hungarian Army. Tomi never saw his father again after 1944. 

Teenager, 19, is arrested after ten children were attacked on their way to school

19:55 EDT, 11 December 2020 A teenager has been arrested after ten children were assaulted on their way to school on Friday while a 14-year-old boy was taken to hospital with minor injuries.  The 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault after emergency services were called to reports of an incident in the village of Wardle, Greater Manchester, at 8.35am. The youngsters are thought to be pupils of a secondary school called Wardle Academy, Rochdale, and it is understood none of them suffered serious injuries.   The youngsters are thought to be pupils of a secondary school called Wardle Academy.
