TARN TARAN: Jugraj Singh, 23, who pitched the Sikh religious flag ‘Nishan Sahib’ on a pole at the Red Fort premises on January 26, is yet to return to his home in Wan Tara Singh village. Fearing police action, his parents had fled the village the next day. Jagjit Singh, a villager, told TOI, “Neither Jugraj has returned home nor does anyone know the whereabouts of his parents since Wednesday. The cops came here a couple of times, only to find Jugraj’s grandparents.” Another villager said on the condition of anonymity that two politicians, including one from an Akali faction, had come to Jugraj’s house on Thursday to promise“all possible help” to the family. Meanwhile, Harjit Singh of the Azad Kisan Sangharsh Committee said, “The struggle will continue for a long time.”

Jugraj Singhs family members and some villagers, who were earlier excited about him allegedly hoisting the Khalsa flag atop the Red Fort, sounded somewhat regretful and fearful of possible police action on Wednesday. Jugrajs parents allegedly fled their village, leaving behind his grandparents. Villagers said police had “raided” Jugrajs house several times and returned empty-handed.
