BURY: Motorists face four months of disruption due to road resurfacing work

Walshaw Road MOTORISTS in will Bury face four months of disruption due to a large road resurfacing project. Bury Council have given notice of the potential road closures which will come into effect from Tuesday, February 9. The carriageway resurfacing work will take place on the full length of Alston Street, Mitchell Street and Woodbank Drive and on Stewart Street from Tottington Road to Mitchell Street. Other areas affected by the project are Walshaw Road, from Tottington Road to Fenton Street and Woodhill Road from house numbers 1 to 85. Over the four months period, at various times, vehicles will be prohibited from passing through.

Housing giants Bellway already have outline planning permisson for up to 108 properties on the former Andrew Textiles site, off Walshaw Road., And now a more defined bid, for 97 homes, has been submitted to Bury Council for closer inspection. Part of the land, which was also home at one time to Lydall Industrial Filtration, has seen industrial units remain, with the western side now cleared. The filtration company has relocated its operations to Rossendale, in advance of the anticipated redevelopment, after bosses are said to have determined that the existing buildings and site were no longer suitable for modern commercial purpose

Bury hammer man spared jail for stolen car threats

Reece Jones turned up at a home on Peers Street in March last year. Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard he came across a woman with a baby who was terrified by his conduct. Prosecutor Lisa Boocock said: “She saw someone standing at the front door, and found it was this defendant. He had a lump hammer. “The defendant got her partner on the telephone. He was swearing and demanding to know where the car was.” She said the car had been returned the following day but the woman felt too scared to remain at the property. She added: “The defendant was interviewed, he said his car was stolen. He said he did not have a hammer.
