She cut short her grad student work to go to work as a copy editor for the st. Louis globe democrat in the mid1980s. After three years in the newsroom in connecticut, she returned to st. Louis and has been an editor and writer with the post dispatch features department for 30 years. She assigns and edits book reviews choosing from 300 or so new books each week.
