Sainiana Vania says she has received assistance from the Ministry of Economy, Fiji Muslim League and the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre. Vania says she, her husband, their 4 children and their aunt were asked not to leave their home and as a result were not able to get essential items in more than 14 days.

Photo: Facebook/Fiji govt Health Secretary Dr James Fong announced last night that the latest cases are all linked to case number 136, the man from Saru, Lautoka, who showed Covid-like symptoms when he visited the Natabua Health centre. Fong said the man was one of seven people who had tested positive to the virus last Friday. One of the new cases is his wife, another is his daughter, and the third was a primary contact of his wife, he said. All three have been in isolation since Saturday. The contact tracers are locating and quarantining their close contacts.

Covid-19 cases continue to climb in Fiji

Fiji has six more cases of Covid-19, two in the community and four in border quarantine. Photo: 123rf.com While making the announcement at a media conference this evening, the Health Secretary James Fong said four of the six new cases were soldiers returning from peacekeeping duties overseas. Dr Fong said some of the soldiers had been fraternising among each other during their 14-day quarantine in the border quarantine facility , which he added is against the rules. He said the other two cases were family members of the woman from the Wainitarawau Settlement in Cunningham who contracted the virus after attending a funeral in Lautoka last week.
