The Waikato to Auckland Te Huia train service has
transported more than 11,000 passengers in its first three
months of operation.
It’s also proving extremely
popular with families in the first week of the school
holidays, with a 31 per cent increase in the number of
people on Te Huia already this week, compared with the daily
average from Monday to Friday.
“When we started the
service we knew it would take time for people to move out of
the car and into the train, but in just over three months
we’ve already exceeded 11,000 passengers,” said Waikato

The Waikato Wellbeing Project (WWP) is calling for
innovators, data scientists and creative design thinkers to
help it in its mission to enable equitable outcomes for
rangatahi/youth.
Expressions of interest are being
sought from rangatahi or anyone with experience working
directly with young people to form a core team responsible
for progressing the WWP youth opportunity.

The first improvement to the Waikato to Auckland Te Huia
rail service will rollout later this month, with Saturday
trains arriving at The Strand station in central Auckland
from 24 July.
The announcement has been made by the
multi-agency Te Huia rail governance group following a
successful trial of the extended Saturday service last
weekend.
“Te Huia has been operating just over three
months and we’ve moved quickly to prioritise improvements,
working closely with KiwiRail, in response to feedback from
