Waikato Regional Council Chair Pamela Storey said: “This is a really positive and impressive step the council is taking. It’s a practical approach that aligns with our business as usual and will benefit the local environment.”
Budget 2024 dedicates an initial $200 million for flood resilience infrastructure (with $101.1 million committed), along with co-investment from regional and unitary councils. This will accelerate six projects in the Waikato region.
Waikato Regional Council will collect rates revenue of $142.146 million in the first year of the 2024-2034 Long Term Plan to be adopted in June, with a 7.4 per cent increase from current ratepayers in the first year.
