TRAI has issued the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Repealing Regulations, 2023, to repeal the older quality of service (QoS) rules of December 2001 that it feels are no longer relevant. The older regulation of 2001 was applicable to all basic service operators and ISPs, including state-run BSNL, MTNL and erstwhile VSNL (rechristened Tata Communications).

New Delhi: The government will sell its entire stake in Tata Communications through an offer for sale (OFS) and the rest to Tata Son s investment arm Panatone Finvest Ltd. Currently, the government holds 26.12 per cent stake in Tata Communications, Panatone Finvest Ltd 34.8 per cent and Tata Sons 14.07 per cent, respectively. Tata Communications Ltd has today (Friday) signed an amendment agreement between the President of India, Panatone Finvest Ltd, Tata Sons Private Ltd and the company for sale of the entire shareholding in the company by the Government of India, Tata Communications Ltd. (TCL) said in the BSE filing on Friday.

NEW DELHI: Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) and BEML, which are up for disinvestment, are expected to be among the first set of gainers from the government’s decision to amend the laws to facilitate the process.
While the government is pursuing an aggressive privatisation plan, hiving off real estate assets is a key element of the strategy to avoid accusations of companies being sold at a hefty discount, as was the case in some of the strategic sales undertaken by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government until 2004. In the coming months, the government is set to line up several PSUs for privatisation.
