Flintshire community marking centenary First World War memorial ceremony

A FLINTSHIRE community is marking the centenary of a large memorial gathering paying homage to local people who died in the First World War. On the March 27, 1921, the people of Sychdyn held a ceremony to which their war memorial was dedicated. The village then had fewer than 500 residents and the community had lost 17 young men in the First World War. The ceremony in 1921. They held a service in the village hall, followed by a procession with the band to the memorial, where there was a further moving ceremony when all the names on the memorial were read out. A local committee had raised the money to build the memorial - which took the form of an arched gateway with the names of the fallen on marble on either side of the gate.

JMCSS chooses Dr Kerri Anne Breeden as JCM Middle School principal

Officials with the school system say Breeden brings both experience and diversity to the position. “Dr. Breeden has over two decades of experience in a variety of educational settings at both the school and district levels. She was a federal programs director, elementary school principal, middle school principal and currently a high school principal. Her proven effectiveness in leading a high priority school to becoming a Level 5 school is a testament of her tenacity to do what’s best for students and teachers,” King said.

JMCSS work session reviews JCM zone map, teacher hazard pay

WBBJ TV February 9, 2021 JACKSON, Tenn. The Jackson Madison County Board of Education met for a work session on Monday. Topics discussed included zone maps for Jackson Central-Merry and one-time hazard pay for teachers, according to a JMCSS news release. “We have non-certified staff and 120 day contract employees who are not covered in the state’s bonus plan. They’re working during this pandemic and cover some of our vacancies. We want to include them in some way,”  said Board chairman Pete Johnson. The release says that Superintendent Dr. Marlon King anticipates using the same procedure that was used for Christmas bonuses, with the district covering taxes.

We met in early November to make a final decision — we waited that long mainly to see how the COVID virus situation would be by February. We needed to reach a decision by then because of the many issues that need to be addressed prior to the actual event; i.e. queen selection, making of slides, advertising, work schedules, artisans, supply orders, baking and others, Williams said.
