The complaint could be settled through an arbitrator, with former Superintendent-President Regan Romali seeking $10 million from the college she led from 2017 to 2020.
An alternate plan that could have blocked Trustee Sunny Zia from running for reelection led to accusations that politics were guiding the map-drawing process for the college.
Migrant Children To Be Housed Temporarily At Long Beach Convention Center Syndicated Local – CBS Los Angeles
LONG BEACH (CBSLA) The Long Beach City Council Tuesday unanimously voted to allow the federal government to temporarily house unaccompanied migrant children at the convention center.
The shelter will provide housing, food, schooling and medical and mental healthcare for up to 1,000 migrant children at a time for up to three months. The children will only be housed at the convention center until they can be united with already identified family members or sponsors.
“The key component of this, which we all understand, is that this is temporary,” Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, who backed the plan, said. “There is a firm Aug. 2 date that the contract will end, and that it’s important for us that this is focused on family reunification.”
The Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees voted to increase the cost of a contract with its board counsel to nearly 18 times its original amount as it continues to feud with and investigate a current trustee and the school’s former superintendent-president.

The 3-0 vote Wednesday night by the board approved a second amendment to the contract with Alvarez, Glassman and Colvin for the services of Vincent Ewing. The lawyer was originally retained by the board in September 2019, about five months prior to the board’s vote to fire former Superintendent-President Reagan Romali, a week after she accused members of the board of corrupt behavior.
