The Navy is known for its big ships. It has a lot of smaller boats and craft, too 3,200 of them.
The three primary stakeholders for these craft are the Surface Fleet, Commander Navy Installations Command and Navy Expeditionary Combat Command. Other stakeholders include Submarine Forces; Air Forces (which own the aircraft carriers); Naval Special Warfare; the Coast Guard; Naval Facilities Command and the Naval Warfare Centers.

The Indian Navy provided assistance to a stranded cargo ship with seven Indian crew members as it was drifting in the Gulf of Oman following failure of its propulsion and power generation systems, officials said on Friday.
The cargo ship was going from Oman to Iraq, they said.
The Indian Navy provided support to the stranded ship MV Nayan on Thursday after its frigate INS Talwar received a call from the cargo vessel requesting for technical assistance, the officials said.
INS Talwar was deployed in the Gulf of Oman.

Indian Navy extends technical help to stranded merchant vessel at sea
New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) INS Talwar, deployed in Gulf of Oman, on Friday provided technical assistance to a stranded merchant cargo ship MV Nayan and helped her in voyage.
On March 11, 2021, INS Talwar received a broadcast call from a stranded merchant cargo ship MV Nayan requesting for technical assistance, Ministry of Defence said in a statement on Friday.
The cargo ship, on transit from Oman to Iraq, was drifting at sea since March 9 owing to failure of its propulsion, power generation machinery and navigational equipment.
