The Sydney Anglicans website says the festival recalls the arrival of the Reverend Samuel McFarlane in 1871, when he sailed to Erub or Darnley Island. The elders of the clan of Erub accepted Reverend McFarlane and took him in as their guest, enabling him to share the Bible with them and spread the gospel in the Torres Strait.

NSW has recorded 22 new local COVID-19 cases, and authorities expect numbers to tail off by the end of the week. The new cases came from more than 68,000 tests undertaken to 8pm on Tuesday and Premier Gladys Berejiklian said initial fears of a significant escalation in case numbers hadn’t been realised. Of the 22 cases, 11 were in isolation for the entirety of their infectious period. The tally for the outbreak that began on June 16 is now 171.

Skye Anne Wallis, 33, from Caboolture, surrendered herself to police custody late on Tuesday. Wallis’s lawyer Hugh Stitt asked for her appearance to be excused when the case was mentioned in Caboolture Magistrates Court on Wednesday. Senior Constable David Masters, 52, died on Saturday after being struck on the Bruce Highway at Burpengary by a suspected stolen car. The car was later found burnt out in semi-rural Moodlu, about 17km from where Sen Const Masters was killed.
