High school student-athletes in certain sports will be required to wear masks at all times, even during competition, according to an announcement from the Virginia High School League on Thursday night.
The VHSL noted in a news release that the Virginia Department of Health âstrongly advisesâ athletes to wear masks at all times during âgroup training, competition and on the sidelinesâ during times of âsubstantial COVID-19 activity.â The release further states that the league understands participation in sports presents âphysical and psychological health benefitsâ and that risks of contracting the virus can be decreased if âathletes, coaches, officials and spectators follow public health guidelines.â
