VINELAND – Superintendent Mary Gruccio, greeted by a standing ovation, didn’t realize a tribute was on Tuesday’s school board agenda.
Retiring this month after a career spanning 46 years, Gruccio was honored for her journey of service that started in a classroom and concludes with her holding the district’s top spot.
Board members whisked Gruccio into an executive session” giving family and colleagues, past and present, time to slip into the Landis auditorium for the surprise farewell.
A 1971 Vineland High School graduate, Gruccio came back to the district after earning her degree. She settled into her first teaching job at Barse Elementary and made educating Vineland’s children her life’s work.
