40-year-old Ray E. Tate is scheduled to appear in Wayne County Circuit Court this morning for a sentencing hearing. He pleaded not guilty in February to 38 counts related to the death of Wayne County Deputy Sean Riley. Last month, he pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder, and the remaining counts were dismissed. The maximum sentence for the offense is mandatory natural life in prison without parole. The Edwards County Board of Education met last night. It heard Baccalaureate will take place May 20th at 7 at ECHS, and graduations will take place May 21st. West Salem's will begin at 10 a.m., Albion's at 1 p.m., and the high school's at 4 p.m. In other action, the board approved a bid for concrete work at the West Salem Grade School parking lot at a cost of $245,320. North Wayne EMS responded to a single-vehicle accident about a mile west of Cisne yesterday morning. According to county deputies, at approximately 8:45, 27-year-old Cisne resident Erick J. Powell was eastbound on a county highway. He said he woke up in his 2015 GMC Terrain after hitting a tree and fence post but did not remember driving off the roadway. Powell was taken to Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Fairfield police arrested 31-year-old Geff resident Meredith N. Flanagan Saturday night. Fairfield Memorial Hospital weekly updates on the Expansion Project: During the week of April 19th, the mechanical, plumbing, and electrical contractors are still working on the in wall and ceiling installation portion of their work. The drywall contractors are mudding and finishing up on the third floor. The waterproofing contractor will be waterproofing around the windows on all elevations and the metal panels will continue being installed on the north elevation. During the week of April 26th, the painting contractor will start priming and painting the 3rd floor. The mechanical, plumbing, and electrical contractors are still working on the in-wall and ceiling installation portion of their work. The drywall contractor will continue installing drywall on the 2nd floor and start mudding on 2nd floor as well. The window frames and windows will continue to be installed and the metal panel contractor will continue installing metal panels the east elevation. For more
