Eight workers of the SDPI were arrested on Thursday in connection with the killing of a 23-year old RSS worker in Kerala s Alappuzha district. Prohibitory orders were also clamped in two taluks as tensions between the two groups continued.

The Kerala Police on Thursday arrested eight members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) for their involvement in the killing of a 23-year-old RSS worker in the Alappuzha district.

A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker was killed allegedly by Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) workers at Vayalar, near Cherthala, on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Nandu, 22, of Vayalar. According to the police, the death followed clashed between SDPI and RSS workers at Nagankulangara Junction around 8 p.m.
According to the police, the clashes left six people injured. ‘‘At least three RSS and three SDPI workers sustained injuries. They have been admitted to hospitals in Alappuzha and Ernakulam,’’ said a police officer.

Thiruvananthapuram: In a big boost for the saffron party, as many as 98 workers from the Left parties joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala ahead of polls. The 98 were former members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], Communist Party of India (CPI), and Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) who worked at the grassroots level. They joined the party in the presence of Union ministers V Muraleedharan and Pralhad Joshi.
