A barn used as a field hospital during the Battle of Gettysburg in the Civil War burned down overnight.
Adams County Dispatch records show the fire broke out just after 2 a.m. Wednesday in a barn on the 2000 block of Baltimore Pike in Mount Joy Township, just behind the Outlet Shoppes at Gettysburg. Barlow Volunteer Fire Chief Eric Hubbard said the barn was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.
Hubbard said the barn, kept in its historic state by its Outlet Shoppes of Gettysburg owners, was vacant at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported, he said.
